Abstract
This study presents an exploratory investigation designed to identify teacher’s approach of differentiating online learning tasks and how they organise students according to abilities. Data was collected from the online survey questionnaire, semi- structured, one-on-one interviews conducted with purposeful sample of fourteen identified “highly motivated” teachers at a primary school in Kuala Belait that administered mandatory online differentiation approach class sessions. Additional data was collected through observations of each participant in their live or recorded archived class sessions. The results of the study detailed the use of teacher’s digital online platforms and ways of differentiated strategies in online teaching and learning in regard to engagement tasks and classroom management. Furthermore, due to the demands of the new normal, using the differentiation approach during online teaching and learning, has opened up a new platform for teachers to change their pedagogy practices where collaboration teaching has become a norm and heightened interactivity. Further implications also suggested that it creates opportunities for teachers’ new ways to interact with each other where using online differentiation approach can encourage and facilitate even more active interaction with and among students that may contribute to their progress.
