THE TEACHING UPSKILLING PROGRAMME (TUP) AS A PLATFORM FOR SHARING BEST PRACTISES IN METHODS OF TEACHING ACROSS SUBJECTS: IN WHAT WAYS DOES TUP SUPPORT TEACHERS IN STRENGTHENING THEIR TEACHING COMPETENCIES?

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the improvement of teachers’ knowledge and competency in BTS TPA2.0, particularly in the implementation of Differentiated Teaching and Learning (DTL) through Teaching Upskilling Programme (TUP) implemented at Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong (PTES). Total of 90 teachers attended the TUP series. The study data was analyzed qualitatively as well as quantitatively. Four types of evidence were examined: (1) the overall performance of teachers at PTES by comparing data from their Teacher Performance Appraisal in March 2020 which was before the TUP with the data after the implementation of TUP in August 2021, (2) teachers’ reflection after the programme, (3) analyse random teachers’ lesson plan and (4) the statements of heads of departments in informal conversations. The findings showed that there was a very significant improvement of 43% in focus areas C3.1 and C3.2 (grade 3 and above). According to the survey, 97% of the teachers agreed to the statement that the programme content and strategies will be useful in their teaching. Furthermore, 89% of teachers’ lesson planning shown a good implementation of DTL on focus areas C1.1, C3.1 & C3.2. 11 HODs believed that the TUP has help improve teachers’ knowledge, skills and confidence in implementing DTL in their classrooms.

Shahrifah binti Hj Mohd Shahlan graduated with BSc in Information Technology from RMIT University in 2001 and a Masters in Education Technology from UBD in 2012. She is an Education Officer at Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong. She started teaching in 2003, and her other responsibilities are Head of Computer Science department, Head of TPA Support Team, School-based Moderator, Head of Innovative Club. She undergoes the Education Specialist Program and Program Penempatan Pakar with EdTech Centre.
Hjh Rashidah binti Md Alai started teaching at Maktab Sains in 2004 and is currently working at PTE Sengkurong as Head of Malay Department and hosting SBC. She contributes actively to the school development and is a passionate educator seeking innovative pedagogies and inculcating critical thinking among her students.
