Abstract

The purpose of this action research is to study students’ learning behaviour and engagement when digital tools are used and integrated in different subjects alongside traditional face-to-face teaching. A total of six classes were observed: A Year 6 English class with 18 students, a Year 11 Travel and Tourism class with 12 students, and four sixth form classes with 25 students in Computer Science, 12 students in Bahasa Melayu, 14 students in Travel and Tourism, and 16 students in Biology. Three types of data were examined: (i) 6 observation logs (ii) survey responses from 65 high school students, and (iii) 6 informal interviews with teachers. The results of the classroom observations showed that all students were fully engaged, actively participated, enthusiastic, social-emotionally engaged, and eager learners when asked to complete a learning activity using technology. 100% of the survey participants agreed that digital resources such as videos or online information enhanced their understanding. All teachers indicated that their students were able to independently and enthusiastically use the technology provided. In addition, 69% of the students showed a transition from enhancement to transformation of the SAMR model.
