Abstract

THE EFFECT OF USING GRAPHIC FACILITATION AS A LEARNING TOOL IN A YEAR 10 HISTORY CLASSROOM

Strand: Pedagogy

Graphic Facilitation (GF) is a process of conversation and explanation of a concept to be drawn into images and texts on large sheets of papers. This action research study used GF based activity on a Year 10 History classroom in one secondary school in Brunei Darussalam. The research examined the effect of the GF as a learning tool in improving students’ ability to recall learned information and how far does the GF promoted student engagement in the lesson. In this research, the data was collected through the use of pre and post test, semi structured interviews and lesson observation. As a result, it was found that the use of GF as a revision tool had a positive effect on recall memory of learned information. It was also found that the GF based activity promoted student engagement but to an extent only. The level of student engagement manifested more in utilizing the GF individually compared to utilizing it as a group.
