Abstract
EFFECTS OF DIGITAL GAME-BASED LEARNING ON VOCATIONAL PHARMACY STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS HUMAN IMMUNOLOGY
Strand: Pedagogy
Human immunology is the study of body response to foreign invasion and it is a subject that pharmacy students are trained for. The literature states that students find immunology a challenging subject due to its abstract and complex nature. This research investigated effects of teaching immunology with Digital Game Based Learning (DGBL) on vocational pharmacy students’ academic achievement and attitude. This was an action research with a mixed-method approach conducted in one intervention cycle on 14 participants of pharmacy technician students from one of the Technical Education institutes in Brunei Darussalam. Findings from the study indicated that the integration of DGBL had a positive impact on students’ learning immunology as demonstrated in the positive increase in mean test scores. Overall, a majority of the students had shown positive attitude towards learning immunology with DGBL. The students also found that digital games provided positive views and learning experience, whilst helping in their understanding of immunology.
