Abstract

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING: AN EFFECTIVE PEDAGOGICAL APPROACH IN TEACHING CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM AS AND A LEVEL STUDENTS IN PLANNING AND MANAGING A TRAVEL AND TOURISM EVENT

Strand: Pedagogy

Experiential learning helps to facilitate students to critically think and to be creatively engaged both in the classroom and outside the classroom settings. This paper investigated the effectiveness of the experiential learning approach at enhancing students’ understanding of content and improving their interpersonal skill as required in the Cambridge International Travel and Tourism AS Level paper 2 coursework project. This paper documented the students’ learning journey from pre-planning stage to the execution of their project as well as reflecting the outcome from their whole experiences, which eventually helped them gain confidence in their ability to solve problems. The main finding is that there was an improvement in students’ Paper 2 AS level results after the experiential learning approach was applied. Furthermore, all the learning processes from experiential approach have helped the students to become life-long learners, who are able to self-direct their own life-path and their educational endeavours.
